Madeleine has over 25 years’ experience as a researcher in the nonprofit and public sector. She's an ardent advocate of social change and using evidence to help organisations 'punch above their weight'.

Her career started at World Wildlife Fund's Southern African office mapping community natural resource use, biodiversity and habitat fragmentation. She previously led a local authority research and intelligence team to provide a strategic evidence base for a county and its localities. Madeleine co-founded Data Orchard in 2013 with early work supporting community-led planning. She contributed to the national research on data maturity in the nonprofit sector in 2017 and has led and delivered many other research projects since then. Madeleine has led or worked on all the impact measurement projects at Data Orchard, from facilitating workshops with staff, leaders and volunteers - to developing measures and pragmatic ways to capture evidence of impact. And from single organisations to national networks and partnerships.

She has a BSc Hons and MSc in Environmental and Geographical Science and applied GIS, and a Diploma in Statistics.

Madeleine lives in rural Herefordshire with her family and other animals. She has been an active community volunteer for years, including being Chair of Trustees at a primary school in rural Herefordshire. She is also a part-time potter in her she-shed at home.
