Data maturity framework for the not-for-profit sector

Data Orchard's data maturity framework for the not-for-profit sector
We chose to adapt Data Orchard’s Data Maturity Framework to create the Government Data Maturity Model. The Data Orchard framework is recent, modern, and well tested. It takes a broad approach to data, encompassing technical data management, as well as culture and leadership. It is very approachable, designed to support communicating complex data ideas to non-technical audiences.
— Government Data Quality Hub, Sept 2022

Version 2.1, January 2022

This Data Maturity Framework has been developed specifically for the not-for-profit sector.

It presents the five stages of progress in data maturity for organisations (Unaware, Emerging, Learning, Developing, and Mastering) across each of the seven key themes: (Data, Tools, Leadership, Skills, Culture, Uses and Analysis).

The framework forms the basis of our online Data Maturity Assessment tool, designed to help not-for-profits assess where they are on the journey to data maturity, and what to focus on next. Try the free or paid for versions.

Version control

The Data Maturity Framework was created by Data Orchard CIC. This version (version 2.1) was published in January 2022 and replaces version 2 (published October 2019), and version 1 created in partnership with DataKind UK in January 2017.
